{"id":385,"date":"2013-12-10T05:56:04","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T11:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oraerp.com\/blog\/?p=385"},"modified":"2014-01-17T14:53:26","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T20:53:26","slug":"configuring-vnc-server-on-linux-6-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/oraerp.com\/blog\/configuring-vnc-server-on-linux-6-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Configuring VNC Server on Linux 6.3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This method applies to RHEL; let\u2019s first install the VNC Server.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Through yum command<\/p>\n<p># yum install tigervnc-server<\/p>\n<p>Or<\/p>\n<p>Through RPM command<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>First, locate and mount your RHEL 6.3 install media.<\/p>\n<p>[root@oraerp ~]# cd &#8220;\/media\/RHEL_6.3 x86_64 Disc 1\/Packages&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[root@oraerp Packages]# pwd<\/p>\n<p>\/media\/RHEL_6.3 x86_64 Disc 1\/Packages<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Install following rpm packages<\/p>\n<p>rpm -ivh xorg-x11-fonts-misc-7.2-9.1.el6.noarch.rpm<\/p>\n<p>rpm \u2013ivh tigervnc-server-1.0.90-0.17.20110314svn4359.el6.x86_64.rpm<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now lets edit the vncservers file to configure display<\/p>\n<p>\/etc\/sysconfig\/vncservers<\/p>\n<p>We can assign numbers to VNC for display like &#8220;:2&#8221; and &#8220;:3&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In vncservers file we will find &#8220;display:user&#8221; pairs as defined on a single line.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>VNCSERVERS=&#8221;2:root 3:oracle&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>VNCSERVERARGS[2]=&#8221;-geometry 800&#215;600 -nolisten tcp -localhost&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>VNCSERVERARGS[3]=&#8221;-geometry 800&#215;600&#8243;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/oraerp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/vnc.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-386\" alt=\"vnc\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/oraerp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/vnc.png?resize=664%2C539\" width=\"664\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/oraerp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/vnc.png?w=664 664w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/oraerp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/vnc.png?resize=300%2C243 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After this we will set the VNC password for users defined in the &#8220;\/etc\/sysconfig\/vncservers&#8221; file.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p># vncpasswd<\/p>\n<p>Password:<\/p>\n<p>Verify:<\/p>\n<p>#<\/p>\n<p>Lets switch to oracle user and set the password<\/p>\n<p># su &#8211; oracle<\/p>\n<p>$ vncpasswd<\/p>\n<p>Password:<\/p>\n<p>Verify:<\/p>\n<p>$ exit<\/p>\n<p>logout<\/p>\n<p>#<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>After setting up password, will enable the &#8220;vncserver&#8221; service for autostart and then start the service.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p># chkconfig vncserver on<\/p>\n<p># service vncserver start<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our setup is over \ud83d\ude42 now we can use a VNC viewer to connect to server by using the display numbers and passwords defined in our setup.<\/p>\n<p>Updated on 18-01-2014<\/p>\n<p>Faced issue on Oracle Linux 6.4, after configuring vncserver properly was not able to connect&#8230;. after research were able to fix the issue&#8230;&#8230; here is what i did:<\/p>\n<p>Linux Firewall was stopping to connect so i just disabled through this command\u00a0service iptables stop<\/p>\n<p>[root]# service vncserver status<br \/>\nXvnc (pid 4370 4174) is running&#8230;<br \/>\n[root@]# service iptables stop<br \/>\niptables: Flushing firewall rules: [ OK ]<br \/>\niptables: Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter [ OK ]<br \/>\niptables: Unloading modules: [ OK ]<\/p>\n<h3>Like what you&#8217;ve read?<\/h3>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"http:\/\/oraerp.com\/blog\/configuring-vnc-server-on-linux-6-3\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"true\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This method applies to RHEL; let\u2019s first install the VNC Server.
